Advancing Regional Forest Governance, GFIP Convened Inaugural Project Steering Committee Meeting

Sierra Leone

On June 24, 2026, we successfully convened our inaugural Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting, marking an important milestone in strengthening regional coordination, governance, and oversight for the implementation of the Guinean Forest Integrated Program.

The first PSC meeting brought together representatives from governments, civil society, academia, regional development organizations, and implementing partners to review progress, provide strategic guidance, and reinforce shared accountability for achieving GFIP’s strategic objectives.

During the meeting, the PSC validated and adopted its Terms of Reference, establishing a formal governance framework to guide the committee’s role in strategic oversight, and decision-making that supports the program’s delivery.

The PSC also received progress updates from the five country projects and the Regional Coordination Project, helping to strengthen alignment across national and regional implementation efforts.

The establishment of the PSC provides GFIP with a critical platform for inclusive dialogue and coordinated action among partners working to protect and improve the effective governance of the Guinean Forests.

GFIP is implemented as a coordinated regional approach, recognizing that the threats facing the Guinean Forests including deforestation, habitat degradation, unsustainable land use, and pressures on biodiversity often extend beyond national borders and require collective solutions.
