On November 8, 2023, we conducted a Gender and Safeguards Training for its child projects in Liberia and Sierra Leone, reinforcing the program’s commitment to inclusive, accountable, and responsible implementation across the Guinean Forest landscape.
The training brought together project teams from the two countries and implementing partners to strengthen understanding of gender mainstreaming, environmental and social safeguards, and grievance mechanisms that ensure that program activities benefit women, men, youth, and vulnerable groups equitably.
As GFIP advances work to protect and improve the effective governance of the Guinean Forests, mainstreaming gender and safeguards in project delivery is essential to building trust with communities, reducing risks, and supporting sustainable outcomes.
The Guinean Forests are a critical biodiversity and climate-resilience region, yet they face growing pressure from agricultural expansion, unsustainable logging, mining, wildlife trade, and climate change.
Through the training, participants reviewed key requirements and tools for integrating gender equality and safeguards throughout the project cycle from planning and community engagement to implementation, monitoring, reporting, and adaptive learning.
For the Liberia and Sierra Leone child projects, the training is expected to support stronger project design and delivery, improve compliance with program safeguards, and promote more inclusive benefits for forest-dependent communities.
